GIUSEPPE CORASANITI

My Reg Limited Edition 2024 guitar is made with the best wood selection, all with more than ten years of seasoning.
The instrument has a Val di Fiemme italian spruce soundboard, which has the right density in order to achieve the best mobility. Indian rosewood is used in back and sides, while the neck is made of spanish cedar. All materials are top notch, the fingerboard as well which is made in african ebony; bindings are in snakewood. The precise and performing tuners are made by Alessi.

Project and production of the instrument are inspired by french building, specifically by luthier Dominique Field. The soundboard is supported by seven fan braces and a bridge plate, the sides are reinforced by small braces across the vein, the back is supported by vertical and horizontal braces.
The goal of the production process is based on balance of the various thicknesses. That allows to structure the back and the sides like a mirror and make them ductile and not to add unnecessary weight, in order to reflect the soundboard’s energy.
Choosing this project helped me find an optimal acoustic output, which is dynamic and balanced through all the registries, even the higher ones. Trebles offer various sonic nuances with a round, clear and full voice, basses are deep and defined. A refined manufacturing of the neck and fretboard make the musician feel the best comfort while playing. Meticulous care in the choice of aesthetic details is obtained through sober and refined chromatic combinations.
The finishing part is made with shellac in the traditional french polishing technique, which brings out wood’s beauty and preserves its natural flexibility.

DE GREGORIO LEONARDO

The guitar is built on Torres shape, it is not a faithful copy as it has been built with modern methodologies with the intention of obtaining acoustic characteristics more suitable for the contemporary repertoire. However, it is strongly inspired by the sound philosophy of the Torres school, with a very low bass tuning, close to the Eb, and therefore a sweetness of sound reminiscent of the instruments of the late ‘800. This guitar is entirely built with European woods, carrying on an idea born this year by several luthiers and strongly shared by the organizers, this to encourage the use of local woods and to demonstrate their goodness.

The guitar is built from the following woods:

Soundboard in German tapped spruce Back and sides in Tasso
Cypress neck
Toasted Eucalyptus fingerboard

Tasso Bridge Tuners Kris Barnett

The inner label (famous portrait of A. de Torres), is a painting by the Cuban artist Deiby Canovas, who very kindly granted its use.

DISSEGNA MARCO

My Limited Edition REG 2024 is crafted on a personal project with a red cedar soundboard and a unique set of flamed ebony for back and sides.

My construction philosophy involves the use of traditional materials and techniques with the aim of getting the most out of every element of the instrument to meet the needs of contemporary guitarist with a comfortable, easy to play, balanced, ductile in nuances and dynamics guitar.

The red cedar soundboard is made to be light and very responsive to the various frequencies with a 7 fan bracing pattern, while the ebony back and sides are more rigid and reinforced to increase sound projection.

The guitar is decorated and refined with my personal purflings that continue both on back and sides, Alessi handcrafted tuning machines and shellac finish.

FRIGNANI LORENZO

How would I define my “Limited Edition” guitar?

I use the best possible choice of woods, with a personal aesthetic taste but
following the characteristics of the tradition; in terms of construction and
sound performance.
If the tradition weren’t correct, it couldn’t even be called a tradition; and I think
that’s very important.
In 1992 I finally created and continued to perfection a personal model with the
aim of obtaining an instrument that could have touched the heart, that gives us
emotion, that renews the desire to play it. Feelings that many traditional guitars
give me.
My attention has also always been directed to the solution of an easy,
comfortable neck and to the design of the sound boxes, to obtain balance and
expressive qualities but also a solid and powerful sound.
Characteristics that, on request, I can also recreate in guitars with smaller and
more comfortable string lenght diapason for less agile hands.
Since the guitar is a beautiful object to embrace, it needs an appearance that
makes it pleasant to the touch and smell, soft in shape, elegant in aesthetic
finishes.
This is why I have always used manual varnishing with a shellac base according
to the traditional method, a more delicate varnish than modern varnishes but
much more elastic and warm and easy to maintain.
A series of aesthetic customization choices and a precise definition of sound
today make my instruments appreciated and sought after by enthusiasts and
musicians from all over the world, whom I thank for trusting me and stimulating
me to create works of sound art.

GILIOLI MARCO

The guitar #58 – Limited Edition was built for Roma Expo Guitars 2024 event, with the aim of showing the public a unique and special instrument, in which I could express my personal sound research and aesthetic elegance skills to the maximum level.

Like my regular production of guitars, this instrument was built taking inspiration from the work of the master Antonio de Torres: however, by following a very particular construction process, different from the traditional ‘Spanish’ method, I managed to obtain an instrument free of any tensions, and consequently very loud, light and performing.

For the construction of this guitar I only chose the highest quality materials.
The Swiss Spruce soundboard has a very deep medullary rays and a marked grain, and inside it has seven braces without bridge plate.
The Indian Rosewood three-pieces back comes from a wood seasoned for more than 70 years, with a characteristic of extreme lightness and rigidity.
The neck is from Red Cedar, and the fingerboard is in ebony.
The string length is 650mm and the varnish is made of shellac.

Finally I paid particular attention to the aesthetic of this instrument.
The rosette has a central hand-crafted mosaic, with a personal design created for this guitar for the first time; the outside of the rosette features a mosaic, also made by hand, which matches the purfing of the top.

GIOVANETTI ENNIO

GUADAGNA GIACOMO

“Venere” (Venus in English) is my classical concert guitar. Years of research to obtain two main characteristics: stability – my guitars are, in fact, designed to last over time – and acoustic balance – treble and bass must be well balanced.
In this era, where standing out is the only mandatory reminder, I convey my whole personality on my work and, hence, on my instruments. I like to play with aesthetic details and colors, although I still remain faithful to the classic harmonious figures.

Today, the “Venere” is the successful result of enormous work and endless hours of study. Today, after many years, I like to say that my Venere’s voice is “myself”.
I craft the sound, you make the music.
Top: Val Di Fiemme Spruce
Back and sides: Palissandro Madagascar
Neck: Cedrella
Fingerboard and Bridge: Ebano
Scale: 650mm
Tuners: Alessi
Varnish: Shellac

GUTIERREZ MIGUEL ANGEL

Cedar for the soundboard, and a set of padouk for the back, sides and bridge, ebony fingerboard and cedar neck. The first thing one notices with this guitar is the beautiful marquetry work on the headstock veneer, rosette, profiles and bridge. The natural colors with reds, browns, black and white, to create various patterns, interlocking diamonds and in the center section of the rosette – a repeating mosaic pattern of nasrid stars. A leaf in mother of pearl symbolizes the leaf used in the well-known story of Adam and Eve, music is a very intimate and personal experience, especially for musicians performing for live audiences who may feel “naked”. The top is reinforced with a latice bracing use of only wood to which corresponds a powerful, full, warm and balanced sound with so many sfumatures.

ILLOTTA ALDO

“It was the love for music and wood carving that inspired me to approach the wonderful world of guitar making, and made me transform a passion into a profession”.
Since receiving, in 1997, my academic degree as Luthier and for Conservation and Restoration of Musical Instruments from Scuola Civica di Liuteria in Milan, I have been building classical guitars, taking inspiration from masters such as Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser and Pietro Gallinotti. I have realised many personal models that, still respecting tradition, can better meet the practical needs of contemporary guitar players. A few years after the end of my academic studies, on top of nylon strings I started working on steel strings, designing and realising acoustic guitar models, to expand the range of products that I could offer to my clients.
Today my production ranges from classical guitars to steel strings, to 6, 7, 12-strings, triplet, bass and baritone guitars. I have approached various music styles such as jazz and finger style, never losing my great love for classical guitars. I had the privilege to build instruments for Ralph Towner, Beppe Gambetta, Bebo Ferra, Walter Lupi, Maurizio Brunod and many others.
I have been spending time on Learning and Teaching throughout my whole career: I have worked as a teacher at the building laboratory of the Scuola Civica di Liuteria in Milan, teaching construction of modern guitars, and at the MAC (Mestieri d’Arte Contemporanei / Contemporary Art Crafts Academy) in Biella. I regularly train students and apprentices in my workshop.
Limited Edition REG 2024 – A Tribute to Italian Lutherie
In making this Limited Edition REG 2024 classical guitar, my desire was to use only indigenous materials, starting with Maestro Pietro Gallinotti’s design, the origin of the woods used, the tuning machines, the strings and the case, all strictly ” Made in Italy.”
The woods used are roasted spruce for the soundboard, walnut for the sides and back, apple for the neck fillets and bridge, and hornbeam for the fingerboard. The strings are “Aquila strings,” the tuning machines “Alessi” and the case “Vs cases.” The scale is 643 mm.
The intent was to get a good instrument without using exotic essences that come to us from various parts of the globe, so a km 0 guitar! A way to enhance all that our beautiful country can offer us.
Constantly researching sound, innovation, and playability for musicians.

The sound box is made entirely of solid wood; Cocobolo with a richly flamed maple for the back center strip and sides; For the soundboard Canadian red cedar with central rosette made with a personalized mosaic design. Inside I have used a bracing inspired by Daniel Friederich.
Flamed cedar neck and ebony fingerboard with 64.8 cm scale length Rosewood for the bridge.

LIJOI MARCO

Guitar Limit Edition Marco Lijoi REG 2024 Characteristics and materials:

– Soundboard: Val di Fiemme spruce – Back and sides: Indian rosewood
– Neck: cedarwood marbled
– Fingerboard: ebony

– Diapason: 650mm – Finish: shellac

Description

The goal of the project was to gather every aspect of my building and life philosophy into this instrument. I wanted it to represent my years of classical guitar studies, dedication to my work, my scientific nature predisposed to research, and all of my passions, especially the use of one’s time and astronomy. Only one rule: do all this as my beloved Greeks used to say, κατά μέτρον (katà metron). According to the right measure, respecting my limitations and accepting them.

The soundboard follows a traditional construction. The lower lobe consists in a seven fan system, a small under-bridge chain from side to side and two whiskers to close. The rosette is meant to represent the celestial vault and was created with epoxy resin, alcohol-based colors, gold and silver dust. The table edge decoration follows the same principle.

Two carbon bars were inserted into the neck in order to stiffen it and preserve its structure. The pitch of the case is G/G#.

I choose an aesthetic line that is simple and essential, yet elegant and refined. I personally prefer to invest more time in other features of the instrument that stimulate me more. Choice, like all, agreeable or not.

The finish is shellac applied by pad. It is prepared and used directly in my workshop. May this guitar best express the feelings and emotions of the musician who plays it!

LIUTERIA GUARNIERI

The Limited Edition for Roma Expo Guitar 2024 by Liuteria Guarnieri features an Italian spruce soundboard, with laminated sides in flamed maple and Indian rosewood, the same wood used for the back, bridge, and headstock overlay. Laminated sides and kerfing allow for a structure with excellent rigidity and a high mass differential compared to the soundboard, ensuring optimal functionality to the latter. The mahogany neck is reinforced with two carbon fiber bars and has an ebony fingerboard bordered by a white binding that continues onto the headstock. The binding on the soundboard and back is ebony with alternating black and white purfling, and the back features an inlay with a motif reminiscent of the decorative patterns found on 19th-century guitar soundboards. The white volutes end with small brass circles, echoed on the soundboard in the diamond-shaped flowers in the rosette. The instrument is finished with glossy polyacrylic varnish, equipped with Gotoh tuners made of carbon fiber, and the nut and saddle are bone. The guitar takes inspiration from a Hermann Hauser instrument but incorporates several innovative construction elements that, along with a classic aesthetic, pay homage to the luthier tradition without sacrificing performance.

LOCATTO LUIGI

The guitar I present this year is inspired by the work of Francisco and Miguel Simplicio.
The soundboard is made of Val di Fiemme spruce cut in 2002.
Back and sides are made of very seasoned Rio rosewood (over 50 years).
In particular, the decorations on the back and sides are inspired by Simplicio’s guitar n. 316-1931 while the rosette is a composition of traditional elements.
The head is inspired by the n. 241-1929.
The idea that guided the work was to re-propose the colors and sounds of the Catalan school.

MAGUOLO MARCO

DUCALE LATTICE BRACED LIMITED EDITION REG2024

For the REG2024 limited edition guitar my goal was to build a guitar using only European native woods, thus avoiding all the tropical woods traditionally used in classical guitar construction.

I took the opportunity to experiment with a new design embracing tradition and innovation.
My DUCALE LATTICE-BRACED LIMITED EDITION REG2024 is a guitar made only of spruce, maple and beech, all indigenous woods. My goal was to make the interaction of the chosen materials match the design I had in mind. I wanted an instrument that recalled tradition but was built with contemporary construction techniques. With close reference to the general concepts and thicknesses of the Torres model’s top (SE114), I used my own lattice-bracing configuration which reflects the trend of the same thicknesses.

The result is a guitar, which is very precise and defined in the fundamental notes, with excellent separation of sounds due to the clean harmonics. The bass is deep and warm, very close to that found in Antonio de Torres’ historical model. The trebles are brilliant and penetrating: it is a very versatile instrument, suitable for all repertoire.

The choice of aesthetics derives from the woods used. I picked three predominant colours to recall feelings of warmth and tradition. For the body of the instrument, maple and spruce, with their warm, amber colour. The torrefied maple neck is become brown, thus matching the purfling which surrounds the body of the instrument. The fingerboard is in dark-stained laminated beech; together with a maple bridge and headstock plate, they imitate black ebony, which emerges from the amber and brown backdrop. The shimmering of the marbling on the back, sides, and neck contrasts with the homogeneousness of the other elements, suggesting an alternation of iridescent baroque and sober elegance all emanating from a crowning central point, my DUCALE rosette, a tribute to Venice and Italy.

MARRABELLO DANIELE

ROMA EXPO GUITARS 2024, LIMITED EDITION – MILANO

This unique instrument called -Milano- is the first one of the “CITY SERIES” boasts a premium Satinwood back and sides, a hand split Master grade Swiss spruce top and a pleasant honduran mohogany V jointed neck.
The rosette is inspired by the paving of piazza del Duomo of Milan, concentric squares and geometric figures surrounded by a colorful double half herringbone (movingui, purpleheart, maple, rosewood) that makes a sense of movement on the whole instrument.

The look has a great visual impact while maintaining a sober balance as the result of a patient aesthetic research

MAZZA FERNANDO

Luthier Fernando Mazza, Limited Edition guitar for Roma Expo Guitar 2024
The guitar I present as the REG 2024 limited edition is based on my Lattice Bracing construction model. This guitar has a red cedar soundboard with balsa wood and carbon fiber bracing. The soundboard has different thicknesses ranging from 2.3 mm to 1 mm.  The balance between the amount of carbon and the thickness of the wood is has been studied and developed so that the guitar has a balanced, powerful and natural sound full of harmonics and sustain.
The sides are made of Santos rosewood and maple. This combination achieves greater rigidity to the sides allowing a stable structure that enhances the volume of the guitar.
The bottom is made of Santos rosewood veneer and Nomex; the rosewood in combination with the Nomex makes the bottom rigid, light and very flexible.
The combination of rigidity and flexibility of the harmonic box means that the soundboard makes one hundred percent use of the vibrational energy of the strings, providing a complete sound.
The Santos rosewood used in this limited edition comes from Brazil and has a unique and unrepeatable Wood veins.

POLLASTRO LUCA

The REG 2024 limited edition by Luca Pollastro represents a harmonious blend of modern charm and historical/contemporary performance. This limited concert model is crafted using traditional hide glue, seven-fan bracing system and cross braces arranged in a custom design. The idea is to create a traditional voice aimed at satisfying the needs of contemporary guitarists; dynamics, clarity, balance and timbral variety are the qualities around which his instruments are developed; great attention is paid to comfort and playability.

The guitar in question stands out from standard production due to the careful choice of woods according to aesthetic and mechanical criteria: Indian rosewood with over 30 years of seasoning for back end sides and torrefied italian red spruce for the soundboard. The decorative elements are characterized by a fine, clean aesthetic, attentive to the color combinations between the various essences. The maple and ebony binding-purfling enclose and contrast the dark tones of the essences selected for the back, sides and top, improving their visual appeal; same decoration as an ornament to the pyramidal pattern which constitutes the central motif of the rosette. Bridge Indian rosewood 12 holes
Alessi mother-of-pearl tuners
Elegant and exclusive Rosette and Decorations

Wood is a wonderful material, warm, ductile and sonorous, and each species has its own mechanical and physical characteristics and unique special voices.
In them we encounter all the nuances of sound: I love the warmth of walnut, the liquid amber of poplar, the brilliance of maple and the sonority of all varieties of rosewood and I design my instruments to match the specific timbre of the back and sides with the soundboard, whether spruce or cedar, to make it shine because it is the true heart of the instrument.

All woods used have CITES documentation where required. When possible, I buy from controlled forests, which give an assurance that, for every tree cut down, a new one will be planted for future generations.

Building a guitar requires a deep knowledge of materials, the study and application of the physics of sound, considerable skill, experience, instinct and a lot of passion: but that’s not all, In my hands wood is shaped to my design and I live my dreams by bequeathing it renewed life, poetry and an eternal voice.

SCHMIDT FABIO

Here is my limited edition guitar, which are the differences between other standard guitars and it?
For sure it is not in my possibilities to do something better in terms of sound or playability, to understand what is for me a L.E. guitar we need to have a look close to it, all the big decorations are handmade and they give a strong personality to the guitar’s look in order to have a super unique instrument suitable for collectors and shops.

SERRACINI DAVIDE

This guitar is a kind of special edition of my traditional building inspired by Antonio De Torres.
It’s unique mainly due to the origin of the woods it’s made of: they are exclusively choosen from Europe. Top is made of italian red spruce; neck, fingerboard, bridge, back & sides are made of flamed maple from Balkan region. The neck is lightened thank to two simmetric longitudinal channel carved in the centre together with a double action truss rod aiming to reinforce and perfectly regulate the setup. Finishing is nitrocellulose that’s ideal to get perfect timbre, toughness and beauty, definitely similar to french polish, but more glassy and strong.

STANZIONE ANDREA

This guitar is the result of years of experimentation on the construction of traditional Spanish instruments.
It is not a historical copy but a guitar made with a modern approach inspired by the concepts of the great 20th century master luthiers.

The construction project consists of a spruce soundboard with a nine bamboo fan brace with cedar bridge plate, ziricote sides and back, mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard.
The main characteristic of this guitar is its flexibility, a research aimed at creating an instrument capable of offering warm and deep sonorities in the low register while seeking clarity and support in the high register.

VAILATI ANGELO

A light Spanish-style guitar with fine aesthetic virtues and a crisp, elegant sound, an instrument that
is immediate and extremely easy to play as well as rich in timbral nuances.
It features Italian Alessi H1 tuners embellished with a handmade floral engraving and mother-of-

The neck is equipped with a trussrod and two carbon bars in order to make it easier to set up the instrument in any situation.
Both nut and saddle are made of mother of pearl, but the instrument has a second mount made of bone.
The guitar is finished with shellac (French Polish).
The binding is made of snakewood and flamed cedar; a decorative mosaic purfling that echoes the rosette motif runs around the soundboard.
High quality handmade Barnett tuning machines with snakewood knobs.

ZONTINI FABIO

This year’s Special Edition is a guitar inspired by Torres lutherie in its aesthetics, design and acoustic result. Its distinguishing feature is a shorter tuning diapason than the standard one to meet the needs of those who prefer comfort and the pleasure of expressing their musicality freely, in an intimate dimension of music making.
The soundboard is made of roasted spruce, which immediately gives the instrument a sonority similar to that of antique guitars. The rosette is loosely inspired by Torres’ aesthetic, where green tones and its characteristic herringbone stand out. The headstock also features the classic shape dear to the Andalusian luthier. The back and sides are made of Walnut (Juglans Nigra), an essence with a deep brown color, reminiscent of a Brazilian rosewood.
The tuning machines are handcrafted by Alessi with fine decorative engravings on the plate and elegant ebony keys, which match well with the same essence used for the fingerboard.
